Before we begin:
As a solo female traveler, I felt completely safe at all four of these properties. Walking late, hopping on the subway, grabbing Ubers, even using private car services — no issues. All four are in prime, highly navigable locations.
Now let’s get into the real tea.
1. Archer Hotel New York
Location: Midtown (near Bryant Park)
Solo Safety: 10/10
My Rank: #1
If it’s your first time in NYC, this is where I’d send you.
You’re close to the tourist staples without feeling swallowed by chaos. Bryant Park is literally around the corner. The subway is easy. Restaurants everywhere. It’s that sweet spot.
What stood out
Rooftop energy? Spot on. Prime views of the Empire State Building.
The pizza and wings at the rooftop bar were actually good.
Staff was warm, polished, and consistent.
My room had everything I needed. Comfortable. Cleaned daily to perfection.
The café downstairs? Fine. Nothing to write home about. But the rooftop carries the experience.
Would I stay again?
Yes. Without hesitation.

2. Ace Hotel Brooklyn
Location: Boerum Hill / Downtown Brooklyn
Solo Safety: 10/10
My Rank: #2
Brooklyn is a vibe. And this hotel fits it.
Steps away from chic thrift shops, antique stores, wine bars, bookstores, little cafés. I walked for hours listening to jazz, just popping into places because I felt like it. That kind of trip.
The hotel itself feels airy, artsy, grown. Not try-hard cool.
Would I stay again?
Absolutely. Especially if I’m in my “slow mornings, long walks, red wine at night” era.
3. Royalton Park Avenue
Location: NoMad
Solo Safety: 9/10
My Rank: #3
I spent 10 days here for a solo birthday trip. That alone tells you something.
The rooftop pool was still open (a win). The rooftop bar feels like a well-kept secret. Friendly bartenders. Easy conversations. Summer energy.
It’s modern, a little glam, a little social.
Would I stay again?
Yes — but specifically in the summer. This is a rooftop moment hotel.
4. Ace Hotel New York
Location: Flatiron / NoMad
Solo Safety: 8/10
My Rank: #4
This one is complicated.
The location is excellent. Truly. The lobby? Always up to something good. The bar? Solid selection. And yes… the bartender wasn’t hard to look at. 😉
It’s also:
Where I had my very first martini.
Where I stayed on my very first solo trip to NYC.
Where I hung out while one of my girlfriends was in town directing a show.
There’s nostalgia here. Real nostalgia.
That said — it needs a facelift. The rooms feel dated. It’s moody, but not in a fresh way.
Would I stay again?
Maybe for the bar.
Maybe for the memories.
But not for the room.
My Final Ranking
Archer – Best overall experience + ideal for first timers
Ace Brooklyn – Best neighborhood energy
Royalton Park Ave – Best rooftop summer vibe
Ace Manhattan – Best nostalgia, needs renovation
