Me and my husband's latest obsession? Kindred, a chic bar located in San Diego, CA. From the ambiance to the staff, to the phenomenal food this bar is outstanding.
It seems like pretty much any drink on the menu is sure to leave you satisfied. My go to is the Great Red Shark, a killer mixture of Gin, Campari, Lemon, Hibiscus Rice Nectar, and Winter Melon Bitters. There's also the Hail the Merchant, a blend of Rye, Smoked Rum, Spiced Pear Brandy, Falernum, Chinese Five-Spice & Orange Bitters. If you aren't sure which drink is the right one for you, talk to your server. They will help you locate what you are looking for.
Now on to the food. Two words: Deli Battle. Seriously, that's all you need to know. When it comes time to order your food just say the words "Deli Battle" then thank me later. For those of you who need a little more convincing: Shaved Red Chili & Orange Fennel Seitan, Smoked Golden Beets, Miso Cashew Ball, Kale Pepperoncini Pesto, Horseradish Aioli, Pickle, Fresh Fruit, Spicy Lemon Tomato Spread, and Warm Baguettes. Are you drooling yet? People rave about Kindred's Memphis BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich, to be honest, I was more blown away by the Deli Battle. Perhaps it is because I had yet to find a restaurant capable of adequately duplicating a plant-based version of your traditional deli platter. Regardless, it is a must try on your next trip to San Diego.
PS. Only street parking is available so arrive early or be prepared to drive around a little to locate a decent parking spot.
